If you are a regular reader, you know that my articles address various aspects of Reverse Mortgages as well as issues associated with aging. I focus on education first and provide a wealth of resources to you to help you “age in place”.
First – a quick review about Reverse Mortgages. A Reverse Mortgage is a financial tool, and relatively complex since it does NOT operate the same as a conventional (forward) mortgage. It can be used to access a portion of the equity in your current home or help you purchase a new home (downsizing from MegaMansion to CozyCottage) A Reverse Mortgage is available only to borrowers 62 and older. It uses the term “reverse” since your home PAYS YOU money (releasing some of the built-up equity) rather than you paying into the home. That is, you make no payments as long as you live in the home. When you move out, the loan is repaid by you or your heirs. The funds available to you are based upon factors completely different than a forward mortgage – no income qualifications, no proof of net worth. Funds available increase with age – so at 82, you get access to more equity than at 62. Loan proceeds can be taken in 5 different ways. And loans are available with adjustable or fixed rates. To find the best Reverse Mortgage option available to you, we need to talk about YOUR objectives and needs, so that we can review the loans variations available from multiple competitors, and understand the nuances between them. So then, what is the “whole enchilada”? A “customer experience” that is unsurpassed. I choose to manage the “customer experience” by being the primary contact for all aspects of the transaction from information gathering through loan funding. You work with me exclusively, not a clerk-du-jour in the “processing” function thousands of miles away. I have a broad knowledge of aging issues – my Mom is 88 and I know first hand many of the challenges to aging with grace. I have outstanding loan “product knowledge” – I work with multiple lenders and stay on top of who is offering the best deal in the marketplace for your specific needs. I have a deeping understanding of the detailed features and requirements of each type of loan. While the government sets the rules that are geared towards consistency, I know how each lender interprets those rules and who offers flexibility in key areas. I keep in touch as the loan is moving through the process. Phone calls or email – your preference. And it’s ME, a single point of contact, not an assistant. I stay connected after the loan closes. I’m available to answer your questions for a lifetime. It’s sometime hard to separate advertising from important correspondence. And since the loan terminology is different, it may all sound like gobbledygook. I’m just a phone call away to answer your questions. AND, I’m available as a resource for other “aging in place” issues. Do you need a referral to someone who can offer in-home care? Someone who can make safety modifications to you home? Or referral to an estate attorney to help you update your estate plan now (perhaps if your former attorney has retired)? I work with Moms and Dads, their children, and a broad range of business professionals like geriatric care managers, attornies and financial planners. Reverse Mortgages are all that I do and have done for several years, providing you with knowledge, expertise and a customer experience unsurpassed. If you would like a no-obligation consultation or would like a free information packet on the reverse mortgage options available for your family, please contact me at my office at 650.591.4430.
